Outboard Trailer Mount

I was a bit worried about leaving the outboard on the transom of the boat while trailering - I do a lot of trailering!

 

 

So I put a mount on the front of the trailer just in front of the winch stand.

 

I used two pieces of 5/4 x 6 inch treated decking lumber with one board shorter than the other by an amount just larger than the dimension of the trailer tongue beam.

The "rear" piece of wood rests on top of the tongue and takes all of the downward weight of the motor. The "front" piece goes all the way below the beam on the side and is "U"-bolted around it. You can just make this out in the pictures.

 

 

The boards were glued, then screwed together to form one unit.

A hefty galvanized metal strap was bolted from the winch stand to the top of the front board.

I put a small rubber v-shaped bow stop on a little bracket down at the bottom to catch the lower unit of the motor.

I also bent a thin galvanized sheet of metal over the top to keep the wood from getting chewed up by repeated application of the motor clamps. It was one of those 4 x 4 decking brackets hammered out flat, then bent around.

 

The mount has the added advantage of a little extra tongue weight on the trailer.
